Adding An RSS Feed To Your FeedReader... (Blog Newbies)

Video Transcript (May Vary Slightly)

Welcome, my name is Bradley G. Smith, with bradleygsmith.com. And this is the video tutorial for adding an RSS Feed to your feedreader.

For this video tutorial, I will give you two examples on how to add an rss feed to your feedreader. You can either add an rss feed to your microsoft outlook application or you can add an rss feed to your favorite online rss reader, like yahoo, or google to name two.

I am going to proceed by adding an rss feed to microsoft outlook and then by adding an rss feed to google. To add an rss feed to microsoft outlook open your outlook program and after it loads, click on the 'Go' Link (Shortcut: Alt + G) from the Navigation Menu. Then look for the line that reads 'Folder List'(Shortcut: Alt + L). The entire shortcut for that process is pushing 'Control + 6'.

After you have brought up your folder list, look for the line that says RSS Feeds. Right click on that Item and look for the line that reads 'Add a New RSS Feed...'. After you left click on that line, you will be prompted to enter a URL. Here is where you enter the location of the RSS Feed. For this example, I will input http://www.bradleygsmith.com/atom.xml, the location of my RSS Feed. Once entered, Microsoft Outlook will verify that it is a valid RSS Feed.

If you followed these steps you have successfuly added an RSS Feed to Microsoft Outlook. Congratulations. Now you can read the rss feed as though each post were an email.

Now to add an rss feed to google. You can add the feed by simply clicking on the Google feed icon on the blog. After you click on the icon, you are taken to this page, where you can choose to either add the feed to your Google homepage or to your Google Reader.

For this example, I will add the feed to the google Reader. Once you click on the 'Add to Google Reader' button, the feed is added automatically to your Google feedreader.

When you are taken to your google reader page you can add an rss feed at any time. To do this click on the link that says 'Add subscription'. Again, you are prompted to enter the location of the RSS Feed. If you haven't already, enter http://www.bradleygsmith.com/atom.xml and Google Reader will verify that it is a valid feed.

If you followed these steps, you have successfully added the RSS Feed to your Google Reader. Congratulations. Now you can read the rss feed as though each post were an email.

Thank you, my name is Bradley G. Smith, with bradleygsmith.com. And this was the video tutorial for adding an RSS Feed to your feedreader.
